NOVEMBER
November 1st | 7pm | NARRATIVA
Opening of the exhibition Nothing Personal by Nikita Teryoshin
In the year in which a record number of armed conflicts has been registered since the Second World War, according to the Global Peace Index, the new NARRATIVA exhibition brings, for the first time to Portugal, a work full of current affairs and sarcasm, which shows the behind the scenes of wars, before weapons reached the battlefields.
Nothing Personal – The Back Office of War, by Russian photographer Nikita Teryoshin, is a satire on the underworld of arms fairs and defense exhibitions, where heads of state, generals and businesspeople watch demonstrations of weapons lethality with glass in hand, such as if it were an art exhibition.
In 2020, Nikita Teryoshin won first prize in the World Press Photo contest in the Contemporary Affairs category with this work.
In 2024, the book of the same name, published by Gost Books, won the award for best photography book in the creative category at the PHotoEspaña festival.
The book will be available for sale and the author will be present at the opening.
Free entry.

Opening of the RETROSPECTIVA exhibition - Masterclass NARRATIVA 2018-2024
Since 2018, Masterclass NARRATIVA has provided a space in Portugal for the creation and development of photographic projects that explore contemporary themes with appropriate time and reflection.
After five editions, Masterclass NARRATIVA has already seen the works developed within its scope be distinguished more than 15 times – nationally and internationally –, highlighting the artistic quality and relevance of the themes covered, at the same time that it has contributed to the revelation of new names in Portuguese photography.
The Masterclass is at the root of what NARRATIVA is today: a photography center recognized for its independence, plural programming, and free access to its resources.
RETROSPECTIVA revisits the work developed within the scope of this differentiating training in the national photographic panorama and is curated by the photographer, founder and director of NARRATIVA, Mário Cruz. The exhibition is held as part of the 4th edition of Photography Month, in Barreiro.

Screening of the documentary CONTRA A MARÉ, followed by a conversation with Inês Ventura and Mário Cruz
“Importa construir sociedades que façam sentido para quem nelas vive. Contra a maré, fazer-se ao mar.”
“It is important to build societies that make sense for those who live in them. Against the tide, put to sea.”
Felwine Sarr
CONTRA A MARÉ is a short documentary film that follows the daily lives of people who were born, live and dream in Guinea-Bissau. For Guinea-Bissau. A dream of hope and often postponed, a dream that carries with it its heavy colonial historical past, but which resists the destiny outlined by the West, breaking the idea of being a country eternally postponed.
The documentary was directed by Inês Ventura and with photography direction by Mário Cruz.
