JAMAIKA follows part of the history of Bairro da Jamaica – a community in Seixal made up of around 700 inhabitants, often racialized and marginalized –, telling their fight for decent housing.

The book, alongside the exhibition at NARRATIVA, is the final chapter of José Sarmento Matos' documentary work developed over three years at that location.

The co-edition of the book JAMAIKA was undertaken by NARRATIVA and its launch coincided with the opening of the homonymous exhibition that occupied NARRATIVA’s gallery.
